James Perera

Managing Partner

James Perera is the founding lawyer of Jubilee Legal and brings over two decades of legal experience across multiple jurisdictions. He has been practising law since 2002, with:

23 years’ experience in New Zealand
24 years’ experience in Sri Lanka
2 years’ experience in Australia

Throughout his career, James has worked across a wide range of legal areas including criminal defence, property law, immigration, and employment law. This breadth of experience gives him a well‑rounded and practical understanding of how legal issues intersect with real life. After many years of broad practice, James made a deliberate decision to focus exclusively on employment law, allowing him to serve clients at the highest possible level in this specialist field.

James acts for clients throughout New Zealand and is particularly well known for his work within the Sri Lankan community, where he provides culturally informed and practical legal advice to Sri Lankan clients who are resident in New Zealand and require expertise that bridges both jurisdictions.

Cynthia Perera

Operations & Financial Expertise

Cynthia Perera plays a key role at Jubilee Legal as the firm’s administrator and operational backbone. She is also a practising Chartered Accountant, running her own accounting practice alongside her work with the firm.

In addition to managing the day‑to‑day administration of Jubilee Legal, Cynthia brings valuable financial and commercial insight to client matters. Where appropriate, she can assist with:

Company formation and structuring
IRD and tax‑related considerations
Financial perspectives relevant to employment disputes and business decisions
